We stumbled upon Lakeview Park & Beach's Children's Mardi Gras weekend during the COVID shutdown. When all the local carnival style Mardi Gras parades were canceled due to the pandemic, we were looking for other ways to celebrate one of our favorite holidays.
We saw Lakeview Park & Beach had a weekend devoted to passing on the tradition of Cajun Country style Mardi Gras and we had to check it out. Our kiddos had a BLAST and it soon became a new family tradition.
Below are a few helpful tips to ensure you and your family have a great time:
Tip #1: Book Early!
If you are bringing your RV or planning to rent one of the many cottages, make sure you book early because they do sell out!
Tip #2: Attire is important!
After our first year, our kids requested their own traditional Cajun Mardi Gras costumes! The costumes consist of a fringed shirt/pants, a cone shaped hat and mask that covers the face. You can make your own (CLICK HERE for DIY directions) or purchase one ahead of time.
Tip #3: You need a ride!
For the Mardi Gras "Run" (AKA parade around the campground), bring the kids bikes or plan to rent a golf cart so the kids can participate in the run/parade. But no need to bring throws!
Tip #4: Immerse yourself in the Cajun Culture!
Take part in all the activities that highlight the Cajun Mardi Gras tradition including Mask Decorating, Cajun Dance Lesson, Chicken Chase, etc.
Children's Mardi Gras weekend is not the only fun & unique event at Lakeview Park & Beach!
